X2M Smart Energy is a complete energy management system that combines solar panels, intelligent automation and community battery storage — contracted across two Victorian estates and ready for your next development.
How the Technology Works
X2M Smart Energy adapts to your usage patterns, maximises solar self-consumption and minimises the use of grid power. Here is how it all comes together.
Step 1: Solar powers your home during the day
We install a 5kW+ solar system tailored to your roof, saving you on grid energy costs from the moment the sun comes up.
Step 2: HEMS optimises your solar use
A Home Energy Management System (HEMS) — think of it as the brain of your home’s energy setup — automatically prioritises free solar energy over grid power.
Got surplus solar during the day? HEMS can pre-cool your home, pre-heat your water and run smart appliances while the sun is shining — so you draw less from the grid at night.
Step 4: Excess energy goes to the community battery
Any solar your home does not use is sent to your estate’s community battery (where fitted) and stored for future use.
Step 5: The community battery generates returns
The battery operator optimises the stored energy and passes a share of the value back to Smart Energy subscribers as an annual payment.
Step 6: Grid power fills the gap
When your solar stops generating, your home draws energy from your chosen retailer as normal.
Smart Energy Components
Solar panels
A premium 5kW+ system, or upsized for your home and installed as part of the build. This is a significant upgrade on the common 2kW builder inclusion, and it translates directly into higher ongoing savings.
Home Energy Management System (HEMS)
Software that automates and optimises your energy use in real time. HEMS ensures your home uses solar first, can pre-condition your home and hot water during peak generation, and monitors consumption so you can see exactly where your energy goes.
Community battery
A shared battery installed within the estate (where fitted), owned and maintained by an independent battery owner/operator. Your solar system connects to it through the grid. X2M Smart Energy subscribers receive an annual payment for participating.
Benefits Overview
Smart Energy homes can save over $1,000 per year on energy costs compared to a standard new build. The savings come from three sources: upgraded solar ($816/year), HEMS optimisation ($121/year) and community battery participation ($75/year).
Beyond the energy savings, Smart Energy customers can access partner benefits including NAB green home loan rates and discounted Solahart hot water systems.
New homes after 1 July 2025 need to meet National Construction Code 2022 (NCC2022) energy efficiency requirements, achieving 7-star ratings, but there may be much more opportunity available to reduce your ongoing energy bills and increase the sustainability of your home by subscribing to X2M Smart Energy.
The above 3 month energy saving benefits were achieved on a test home in regional Victoria. (This is an example and actual results may vary.)
