The Challenge
The massive demand for AI capacity is driving the growth in data centres in Australia with 162 data centres already operating and 90+ proposed or planned. These data centres will require large amounts of electrical power which will create a huge impact on the Australian grid. Furthermore, the data centres may require large volumes of water for cooling which will place additional burden on an already strained water network.
Solution Overview
X2M and Resi Ventures have a 5 year partnership to develop regional data centre and energy infrastructure precincts that use the circular economy to reduce the impact of data centre electricity and water demands as well as providing other multi-use benefits. The first project in the partnership is in Victoria and which will have a data centre, battery storage, an anaerobic digestor, heavy EV charging and horticulture/aquaculture that uses waste heat. X2M plans to use its Hive.AI by X2M Smart Precinct product to manage the precinct resources, billing, operation as well as managing the data centre environmental operation which will generate significant savings in resources and operational costs.
