WHAT'S THE MISSING LINK IN AUSTRALIA'S $2.3 BILLION ELECTRIFICATION PUSH?

Community batteries.

What’s the missing link in Australia’s $2.3 billion electrification push? Community batteries.

  • As a tech provider working at the intersection of utilities and communities, we see first-hand the challenges Australians face in accessing clean, affordable power, especially renters, apartment dwellers, and low-income households.
  • With household battery subsidies rightly gaining momentum, there’s still a critical gap in the national strategy: collective infrastructure. Supporting councils, strata groups, and communities to install shared batteries would deliver broader impact, lowering costs, easing pressure on the grid, and accelerating our transition to net zero.
  • Community batteries are faster to deploy, fairer to access, and smarter for the grid. They allow entire neighbourhoods to benefit from shared solar storage and access cheaper, cleaner energy when they need it most.
  • The technology is proven. The appetite is there. What we need now is vision and scale.
